“Sky Sports understands Arsenal have agreed a fee with Caen for hot-shot M’Baye Niang, but face competition from Manchester City for his signature.” – SkySports.com

Niang playing for his team Caen last season

It is understood that Arsenal have agreed a fee with French Ligue 1 hot-shot M’Baye Niang. After spending a week at the London Colney training ground, Wenger has decided he is good enough to make an offer for. After snubbing Tottenham, who also made an offer for the highly rated 17 year old, it is understood that both Milan and Manchester City are interested.

Personally I do not see why he would go to City, they don’t have a history for raising talented youngsters, where Arsenal, on the other hand, do it time after time. Also, Milan could be a threat with their star Striker Ibrahimovic on his way out, with a move to PSG. Therefore they may feel the need to rebuild their squad, with another striker with huge potential.

News earlier on this week linked Arsenal with the deal, valuing it around £5-£7 million. Although, the deal is not complete yet, it seems likely with the player rejecting a trial at rival club Tottenham. Although last season, the 6ft striker did not score many in his 23 appearances, he has been on Wenger’s watchlist for a few seasons now.

Although predominantly a target man, Niang can also play Attacking midfield, with pace and skill, he likes to play a lot of short passes, but also likes to take long range shots, perhaps something Arsenal need to learn to do! As well as being a good attacker, he is also strong at winning the ball back, which unfortunately lead to him making over 30 fouls last season, receiving 2 yellow cards in his league. He also plays for France’s U21 side, further proving his fast development, at just 17 he has a bright future ahead.

In my opinion, this would be a brilliant addition to the squad, especially with the departure of Carlos Vela earlier today. Niang offers hieght, strength and skill, not to mention he is only 17 and playing in the French first league, (although they are now relegated) as well as the French under 21′s. If he does join Arsenal, I can see, yet again, another future star in Wenger’s hands.

After Robin ‘Judas’ Van Persie decided not to sign a new contract with Arsenal this summer, many rumours have started to gather pace regarding a possible replacement. The latest name to be touted around is that of Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish international striker who currently plies his trade with Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund has an impressive record with his current club, scoring 30 times in only 67 appearances. Also a regular starter for the national side, he kicked off the scoring for his country at the recent Euro 2012 tournament during which he was linked to Manchester United by his manager, Franciszek Smuda.

After earning his place as a regular starter for Dortmund he has continued to progress with an average goal time of one every 130 minutes. He also provided the second highest amount of assists and came sixth in the overall scoring table for the Bundesliga. He is familiar with the lone striker role as this is the position he played last season and i think with him up front with Podolski and Giroud, we would be a force to be reckoned with.

One thing is for sure, if Van Persie does leave this summer, we will have to move fast to secure his replacement. Even with rumours that he may do a dramatic U-Turn i think it is unlikely that he will play in Red and White again so we should act fast and offload him to fund world class players.

Feel free to comment below and let me know what you think of Lewandowski and check out the video to see him in action!

Who is this glorious signing you ask? Okay, I admit, it’s Abou Diaby.

Abou Diaby

With talk of the leggy midfield-man potentially departing the club this summer, I thought it was time to bring to attention what we actually have in our number two.

Inconsistent? Sure. Over-paid? Apparently so. Injury Prone? We all know the answer here. However, as Gooners mourn over M’Vila apparently falling from our grasp, we should not forget what a commodity Diaby is.

Diaby is a player capable of gliding up and down a pitch, carrying the ball with a deftness more accustomed to a 5ft 4in La Masia graduate.

The heir-apparent to Patrick Vieira has the physique to warrant the years-old comparison. And we don’t need reminding that he can score a decent goal do we?

(And for those you do…)

[youtube

We know he’s not fully fit even yet, as we saw towards the end of last season. Yet Diaby now has a full pre-season to prepare for the forthcoming campaign.

We saw it with Tomas Rosicky last season, a player sub-consciously stricken from the roster by many Gooners, only to align himself among Arsenal’s most crucial players.

August 2012, up step Vassiriki Abou Diaby to claim the throne that is rightfully yours. And I for one am predicting he shall do so.

Will he stay or will he go? Your guess is as good as mine

Robin Van Persie, Captain Vantastic, the man who “scores when he wants”. Arguably our most important player, has one year left on his contract. In the world of football, this is a critical time for both player and club. Van Persie is currently holidaying and will resume talks on his future when he returns, but I thought I’d take this opportunity to gather my own thoughts on this saga.

The simplest answer to the heading has to be goals. And lots of them. But lets see what roles they’ll be playing at Arsenal.

Lukas Podolski is the first one we’ll look at. Arsenal confirmed the signing of Lukas from FC Koln for an undisclosed fee, rumored to be in the region of £10.6M. Lukas has played on the left of the front three for most of his career. That’s where I think wenger will deploy him at AFC. He can also play up top with a strike partner or on his own, although we haven’t seen much of him as a lone striker. He has been a regular at Cologne and Germany since 2003 and had a 3 year stint at Bayern Munich from 06 to 09. He scored 46 goals in 81 games in his first spell with Cologne, and 33 in 88 in his second spell. At Bayern, he is deemed as a failure as he only managed 15 goals in 3 years.

But let’s focus on his most recent form at Cologne. He’s been a regular goal threat for a team who was fighting relegation for most of the season. So what he brings to Arsenal?? The answer is Simple. He comes with Pedigree, international experience, amazing work ethic, goals, assists … and a great lad to have around in training and in the dressing room. He’s a more refined left sided Theo Walcott IMO. With a footballing brain, that is, as some pundits might suggest. Arsenal have lacked a regular goal scorer from the left wing of late. Arshavin, and most recently Gervinho have failed to live up to those expectations. So hopefully, he’ll score some valuable goals for us.

And what we have seen at the euros, He’s a team player who tracks back and helps his full back out. Something Arshavin failed to do on a regular basis. In Poldi, we’ve got an international proven goal scorer, with a great attitude. Credit must also be given to Wenger for tying him up early. Great bit of business. Cheerio.

Now, on to our latest capture, Olivier Giroud. Ok ok, he isn’t confirmed by Arsenal.com yet, but the deal is all but done. It cost us around £12.6M to acquire the services of Montpellier’s top scorer who will sign a 5 yr. deal pending a Medical at London Colney.

I have only watched him on YouTube to be honest, but I’ve contacted some Gooners who closely follow the French League, MHSC games to be precise. Olivier Giroud,26, scored 21 goals last season and won the French golden boot award . Now again, the same ol question, What does he bring to Arsenal? Hmmmmmmmm, wait, looking for a suitable word..ah, yes. It’s called plan B. The same plan B all Gooners said we lacked. Stoke Rugby Club. Beware.

At 88 kg, 6 ft.3 in tall, He utilises every inch of that frame. He won 70% of the aerial duels last season, more than any top 4 striker in the to 5 leagues across Europe. His hold up play is among the best, brings other team mates into the game, which is indicated by his 9 assists last season.

And the best thing is…He never fails to shine in big games.

I guess the first line of the blog was quite appropriate.

Today the news all Arsenal fans had been waiting for was finally revealed. Podolski will be playing in an Arsenal shirt next season! Arsenal had been continuously linked with Podolski for several months up until now, most notably in January with the club believed to of had a bid rejected. As, it was the players decision to remain with the club until the end of the season to avoid missing out on a first team place with the Germany national squad at Euro 2012. Whilst, his club Koln didn’t want to sell their star man as they battle to avoid relegation. Podolski has signed a long-term deal with the gunners for an undisclosed fee. The German international has been in fantastic form this season, having scored 18 goal in 28 league appearances for a club struggling at the foot of the Bundesliga. Podolski has also scored 43 goals in 95 games for the German international side. In my opinion, this is a fantastic signing for the club and he represents real value for money. Arsenal didn’t have to pay over the odds to complete the signing of the talented German and at the age of 26 he will come to Arsenal with experience and a determination to succeed at a big club.

Per Mertesacker is a close friend of the player and he had this to say previously about the player months before todays confirmed deal: “He has been very interested in the past few weeks and has sent me a number of text messages, I’ve told him that this is a great place to work and that Arsenal are an amazing club. Nothing has been agreed on yet, though, and Lukas hasn’t given me a ring yet.” This highlighted a clear intention from Mertesacker to encourage Podolski to join the Arsenal project and become a valuable member of the Arsenal squad and of course he took Mertesacker’s advice and has now done so.

Arsenal chief scout Steve Rowley had watched the German international several times this season, therefore the London club will have an understanding of the type of player they will be getting for the reported £8-12million fee. Although, this fee has been declared as undisclosed presently.

Lukas can play both on the wing and as a lone striker/ in a striking partnership with Robin Van Persie. This type of quality, versatile player is exactly what the club have been crying out for, over recent seasons. However, many people have raised doubts over whether the player can handle the pressure of being one of the key players at a BIG club and not the only BIG player at any particular club. This point has been raised as Podolski didn’t have the most successful of times at Bayern Munich before capturing his genuine top form at FC Koln over the past two seasons in Germany’s Bundesliga.

The club hover just above the relegation zone and for Podolski to play alongside the likes of: Robin Van Persie, Jack Wilshere, Alex Song etc. you would expect the player’s goal tally to increase significantly in the process. This would prove to be a transition from Wenger’s typical transfer policy with the club conducting its business early. If the club can clear the dead wood in the summer and sign at least two/ three more quality players then the club would be in a great position to challenge next season on all fronts.

So What Can Gunners Fans Expect If The Player Joins Arsenal?

The Arsenal fans can expect:

  • A prolific international striker who is at an ideal age to make his next BIG step in order to benefit his career.
  • The player continues to enjoy strong form stretching back to the start of last season.
  • Podolski is versatile and can play on both wings upfront on his own or partnered with another striker as I previously mentioned.
  • Pace, good control and an eye for goal.
  • A player motivated at this stage of his career to succeed and win trophies. He is hungry for success and wants to play alongside great players who can complement him.
  • An adequate partner for RVP with both players having similar important qualities: pace, hunger, good control, good striking ability and great movement. This partnership could prove to be deadly if it comes to fruition.

With Speculation continuing to mount regarding Robin Van Persie’s future, rumours are coming in thick and fast about who would replace him. It appears that Real Mardrid are amoungst the interested parties and could be willing to do a swap deal involving Karim Benzema.

Almost five years younger than Van Persie, some might say that Benzema possess the potential to give more to the team in the future, whilst others are adamant that we must keep Van Persie, even if he may not be able to offer us as much in the long run. After all, van Persie has a track record with injuries, one knock now could affect the rest of his Career. This is why he is possibly trying to stall contract talks, he wants wait until after the Euro’s are finished and assess the situation then.

Anyway, please participate in the Poll below and let me know your thoughts, would you do a straight swap, a player + cash deal, or nothing at all? As always I am very interested in what you all have to say so please feel free to elaborate on your answer by commenting below.

With Arsene Wenger widely tipped to strengthen his Arsenal squad with experienced, quality players this summer, could Wenger rejuvenate his interest in Marseille’s Mathieu Valbuena? Last season Valbuena was continuously linked with a transfer to Arsenal however, this of course had failed to materialise. Marseille have financial problems and will be looking to trim the clubs wage bill further. In the January transfer window the influential Argentine Lucho Gonzalez rejoined his old club Porto, for a cut price £1.5 million representing a BIG loss on what Marseille initially paid Porto for the experienced midfielder.

If Arsenal make an interesting offer to suit all parties then Valbuena could well be on his way to the North London giants. Whether the french player is ready and willing to move abroad to leave behind his Marseille team- mates and french coach Didier Deschamps is another story.

In 2011 Jose Anigo, Marseille’s sporting director had stated previously “Mathieu has been with this club for six years and we’re willing to open talks if Arsenal want to buy him”. “We are very pleased with his performances, but we’re ready to listen to offers out of respect for the player”. Therefore, the club has signalled that if the player desires a move away from the club then they will not hold him back and allow him to fulfill his ambition.

The attacking midfielder is capable of playing both in an attacking mid position or on the wing. Mathieu can boast over 150 league appearances for Marseille, with a vast amount of experience in French footballs top flight. The french international would add: trickery, pace, skill and drive to the already talented Arsenal midfielder. In my opinion, Valbuena would prove to be a great signing for Arsenal to use in the attacking midfield position. Strength in-depth is so important for the club to strive to be the best they can be! Valbuena has fantastic close ball control and a powerful shot enabling him to score from long-range distances as proved several times throughout his career. Wenger could rotate the attacking midfield position with both Valbuena and Wilshere, for a starting berth. His versatility also makes him an interesting prospect for “The Arsenal”. Valbuena could soon become a fans favourite at Arsenal, for his work rate and desire if a move to Arsenal is on the cards this summer. The 27-year-old has great strength for a player of his stature, he would surely be more than capable of coping with the rigours of the Barclay’s Premier League. given time to adjust and settle.

How Much Would The French Maestro Be Available For?

Expect any interested club to pay a fee in the region of £10- £15 million for a player in his prime. A move to a bigger club could help the player cement his place in the french national team and increase his reputation as a dynamic midfield master.

He is clearly a very talented player with a vast amount of experience. Valbuena could prove to be Arsenal’s alternative to Mario Gotze, who recently signed a new contract with Borussia Dortmund signalling his intent to stay at the German club for years to come.

If Arsenal can negotiate a reasonable fee with Marseille for the playmaker I assure you Gunners fans will not be disappointed with what the player has to offer. I would be delighted if Arsenal complete a move for the talented player, along with a couple other quality additions. If Arsenal can strengthen their squad and keep hold of their prized assists then expect Arsenal to seriously challenge on all fronts next year…

Dutch Legend Patrick Kluivert claims that Robin Van Persie must leave Arsenal if he is to win significant honours. The Dutch all-time leading goal scorer believes that RVP has served his time at Arsenal and must move if he wants to win big.

‘He is a player who is a leader in the strike force of Arsenal, a leader in the team, but for Robin it is nice to look forward to another club to win prizes. That is the most important thing,’ he told talk SPORT.

‘He can’t do anything any better with Arsenal. He needs to win big prizes. As a player, you want big prizes and I think if he goes to another club he can achieve that.’

It seems Kluivert does not believe Arsenal have the ambition, or quality, to contend for major titles in the years to come. It is rumoured that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Man City will try to lure RVP Away from the north London club, but Wenger has made a firm statement, claiming he will not sell to Man City. As we know, he is in the best Goal scoring form of his career at the moment, who wouldn’t want to buy him.
Most of the Arsenal faithful believe he will stay this summer, and so do I. There was a lot of speculation surrounding his visit to the Barcelona team hotel late Monday night, but I don’t think the rumours have much substance to them. The media really can make a story out of nothing, for example, Andre Santos was visiting Dani Alves at the same time. Yet, we don’t get headlines like ‘SANTOS TO BARCA’ every day for the next week.

Let’s hope that Arsene Wenger can persuade him to stay by splashing the cash this summer, with links to the likes of Podolski, Sahin and many others, we could mount a strong title challenge next season.

As for tomorrow, we will have the Arsenal vs. Chelsea preview online, and this evening you may be treated by a new Guest article.

Till then,

Evening all,

As the week slips away and we start to move towards the weekend, some mouth-watering football awaits us. This Sunday see’s Manchester City visit the Emirates stadium trying to keep their title hopes alive. They are facing the one of the most in form teams in the Premier League (if you ignore the QPR defeat) and I hope we give them a good thrashing; after all it’s the least they deserve. I’m sure all football fans across the world would pay to see the look on all the City fans faces when they realise that you can’t buy trophies. Regarding team news, there is little to be said at this stage but during the week various stories have emerged regarding Arsenal’s summer targets, the latest one being on loan Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson. Reading Boss Brian McDermott, who managed the midfielder, thinks he has the quality to cut it at the top level.

“I spoke to Arsene about him and you could not tell me he could not play for Arsenal,”

To be honest, from that single quote, it tells us very little. Sigurdsson has far from proved himself at a top club and has a long way to go before we can start speculating moves to a bigger club. He has although, just been awarded the Barclays Premier league player of the month and there is no doubt he is a promising talent. The reaction online seems to be a good one, in many people’s eyes we need to buy a goal scoring midfielder. I agree with this, since the departure of Fabregas and Na$ri last summer we haven’t really replaced them with any players with an eye for goal. Arteta was the best signing of last summer in my opinion, but I think we can all agree that he should be scoring more than he is currently. All we really need is someone to share the burden with RVP as if *touch wood* he did get injured; we currently don’t have anyone providing on a regular basis.

Moving on,

Nicklas Bendtner remains indecisive about his future with Arsenal, speaking to The Shields Gazette, he said,

“I really like the club and the manager has done really well since he came in here, but I haven’t given it any thought yet.

“I still have two years left with Arsenal. It isn’t just up to me.

“Ideally it would only be in my hands, but I’m just waiting to see in the summer.

“We’ve got the Euros, then in the summer after the Euros, we will see where we are.”

Now, I like Bendtner and I hope he comes back. He is clearly a better alternative to Chamakh, who’s form is nowhere near good enough for a top four Club. When you sub a striker on from the bench, you expect an impact; Bendtner has that, but unfortunately Chamakh doesn’t.  Unfortunately, with the imminent arrival of Podolski, I think his chances in the first team will be limited, but even if he doesn’t stay I’m sure Barcelona would be happy invest in someone of his calibre.

Finally, after being heavily linked with Arsenal over the past few days, Oliver Giroud has spoken publicly about how he will continue to concentrate on the job in hand,

“I can’t let it trouble me.

“I want to carry on being good with Montpellier and keep producing what I’ve done since the start of the season, and take the club where it should be, into the Champions league or even higher.”

I must admit, I don’t know much about Giroud but from what I have seen (YouTube) he looks like a natural goalscorer. His movement is good and he finishes very nicely. On the other hand, it seems as though it could be Chamakh all over again. If you remember, Chamakh was performing very well whilst playing in League 1 and look where he is now. It is clear that this kid has quality, but getting excited and rushing to buy him would be a mistake. Nobody knows how he would perform in the Premier League or Champions league and the asking price of £50 million is a large gamble. Obviously he would never sell for this much; I have even heard that he has a £16 million release clause in his contract. It really is amazing that a player rated at £16 million last year, has more than doubled in value in less than 6 months. But there you go, welcome to the money driven world of football.

P.S. I hope you all enjoy the new and improved Arsenation website, let me know your thoughts on what you want to see improved via twitter.

That’s it til next time,

Good night.
