“Striker Carlos Vela is in San Sebastian this evening for final discussions about a permanent move to Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad.” Arsenal.com

Since then Vela has been pictured with his new team’s shirt.

Carlos Vela, the 23 year old Mexican, will complete his move to Real Sociedad after spending last season on loan to them . The deal is rumoured to be around £3m with a 50% sell on fee. This is sad news, as Vela was another  promising development of Wenger’s, who also had a very good season last season.

During the 2011/2012 season, Vela spent his career on loan at Real Sociedad, the attacker played over 25 games for them in La Liga, netting a goal 12 times and assisting a respectable 7. Vela was an exciting prospect as he could play an Attacking Midfield role, where he scored 8 of his goals, but also a Centre Forward role.

Although, Vela had a weakness of being caught out of position, caught offside almost 25 times last season, he clearly has positional awareness to work on, but in contrast to this, his visual awareness was second to none, creating 41 key passes and a passing success rate of 80%, he clearly suits Wenger’s style.

Vela celebrates for Arsenal

Having said this, La Liga isn’t the Premier League and many say that Vela would not work in the Arsenal side. I seem to remember him in the Carling cup against Wigan though? As well as his hat-trick in his full debut in 2008 against Sheffield United, with his second goal recently voted as one of Arsenal’s 50 greatest goals!

It is a shame to see a young prospect leaving Arsenal, I genuinely think he has a big career ahead of him and feel he will be vital for Real Sociedad in La Liga. Although, now that Arsenal have offloaded him, we should concentrate on using the capital from the deal to secure contracts with Walcott and RVP, which will cost around £70,000 more a week.
