Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has revealed how a flight on a private jet proved pivotal in his decision to jilt Manchester United and sign for Arsenal instead in 2008.
Back in 2008 Cardiff looked set to have agreed a deal with the Red Devils for the transfer of Ramsey, then 17, to a point at which the transfer was even pre-emptively announced on the club website. However, a late change of heart meant that the Welsh youngster opted to sign with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal instead.
Arsenal take on Manchester United this weekend in a huge Premier League clash in which the Gunners will be looking to bounce back form a disappointing 1-1 draw with Spurs. If you fancy a flutter on the game check the UK casino list by Casinority to get the best odds from reputable bookies.
Speaking prior to this weekend’s match up against United at Old Trafford, Aaron Ramsey spoke to Sky Sports about exactly what went on prior to his eventual transfer to Arsenal eight years ago.
“I went up there to see the facilities and went to see Arsene Wenger,
He did a lot to try and get me to this club. As a 17-year-old, flying out on a private jet to his hotel (during Euro 2008) was surreal but I think I made the right decision.”
He also spoke of the importance of Wenger’s approval eventually led to him signing with the Gunners.
“I felt a bit more wanted by Arsenal and by the boss”
Ramsey might fancy himself for a starting role this weekend against the Red Devils. To date, his season has been disrupted by injury since the Euros where he shone as Wales reached the semi-finals.
However, it is likely that Arsene Wenger may opt for the more defensively secure partnership of Francis Coquelin and Granit Xhaka in order to nullify the threats posed by Paul Pogba.
