Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has defended striker Alexis Sanchez after he was criticised for appearing to laugh whilst on the bench during the Gunners’ 1-5 thrashing against Bayern Munich last week.
Cech, who was sat next to the Chilean at the moment in question, denies that Sanchez was laughing at the result and suggested that the 28-year-old was just as disappointed as the rest of the team post match. Speaking to the Telegraph the Czech stopper said the following.
“It is sad and he was as sad as I have seen him,”
“You are 5-1 down and somebody twists it and says you are laughing on the bench. I found it very disrespectful to the player. But obviously you can take the picture and you can interpret it in the way want. The players know exactly what he said and we know how he was hurting and he was as disappointed as anybody.”

Sanchez’s body language certainly drew the ire of many Arenal fans, however, it is also fair to assume that he may have been laughing (however badly timed) at something completely unrelated.
Regardless, the 28-year-old’s exit this summer seems more and more likely by the day. In the meantime, the Gunners are chasing down a top four spot whilst manager Arsene Wenger continues to come under intense scrutiny.
This weekend the Gunners return to Premier League action against West Brom and will be looking to take three points to keep their top four hopes alive. Interested in prediction information and analytics? Check out Premier League predictions at the link here.
