Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has been speaking about the impact of summer signing Alexis Sanchez after the Chilean has enjoyed a pleasingly fruitful start to his career with the North London Club.
Speaking to Arsenal Player the England winger claimed that the 25 year old Chilean continues to surprise him even though he is fully aware of what his Attacking colleague is capable of.
“Alexis is a brilliant player and he does stuff that really does surprise you and you think, ‘how has he got out of that one?’,” he told Arsenal Player. “And, like against Southampton, he’ll step up and put a free-kick in the top corner.
Chamberlain however claimed that he was always fairly confident the number 17 would tuck away the free kick against Southampton having seen him put away a few of a similar nature in the warm up.
“To be fair, I knew he was going to do that because in the warm-up he had four in a row in front of a lot of fans. When he stood up to take the free-kick in the game I said to Kieran, ‘this is going in, you should have seen him in the warm-up’, and he put it top corner.”
The Ox also noted his admiration for the solid work ethic of the the 25 year old Chilean which is frequently noticeable as he charges up and down the pitch, keen to fulfil his defensive duties.
“It’s moments of brilliance like that [which show his quality] but at the same time he works harder than I think I’ve seen anyone work. He is so skilful but he also does the defensive work up front and sets the tone.”
Oxlade Chamberlain, who will be hoping to be handed a few more opportunities in the Arsenal team since news of a lengthy injury layoff for club record signing Mesut Özil, is expected to start this weekend against Hull as the Gunners look to overcome a team that they memorably saw off in last seasons FA Cup final. The Gunners are desperate to get another win under their belts in the Premier League after a sluggish start that has seen them fall behind the likes of Manchester United and Spurs in recent weeks.
