Arsenal look set to sign Deportivo forward Lucas Perez and Valencia centre back Shkrodan Mustafi in a late double deal which will break the £50m barrier. Both players will undergo medicals today before the signings are formalised.
After weeks of discontent amongst the Arsenal faithful, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger appears to have finally reached a deal for Mustafi after week of haggling over an appropriate fee. It is believed that the Gunners will now pay around £35m for the services of the 24 year old World Cup winner. Mustafi represents a step in the right direction for the Gunners who have been crying out for a worthy centre back partner for current first choice Laurent Koscielney.
The 24 year old German is set to be undergoing a medical in London today and could be announced as early as tomorrow. It is unlikely that the defender will feature in Arsenal’s saturday game against Watford but could have his sights set on a debut after the International break.
Wenger also got his checkbook out for 27 year old Deportivo striker Lucas Perez, the Spaniard enjoyed a fruitful campaign for the La Liga side last season with 17 goals in 37 games. The signing comes a little out of left field but the Gunners will be pleased to have secured the services of a striker who is both strong, quick and has a keen eye for goal.
Both players will hopefully address the main weaknesses in the Arsenal squad and enable Arsene Wenger to recover from a disappointing start to the season which saw the Gunners take only 1 point from their first two games.
