Speculation is rife at the moment regarding the future of Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin. A series of injuries have hampered his progress at Real Madrid and the midfielder is reported to be keen to move away from the club in the summer. Moreover, according to widespread reports Mourinho is willing to offload Sahin, with the midfielder not in his future plans. Nuri Sahin is well down the midfield pecking order at Madrid and a move is vital for the former Dortmund player to kick-start his career again. Madrid can boast the likes of: Kaka, Mesut Ozil, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Lassana Diarra as midfield options, therefore it is no major surprise to see Sahin struggling to compete with such experienced, internationals.
How Much Would Nuri Be Available For?
Well, Madrid had to pay Borussia Dortmund £8million in 2011 to acquire the Turkish international, consequently they will be seeking a similar fee to the £8million they paid for him.
Although, the midfielder hasn’t had the opportunity to shine during his time at Madrid it is important to consider the players previous form at his former club Borussia Dortmund. During the 2009-2010 Bundesliga campaign Sahin started 33 out of a possible 34 matches. Nuri finished the season with eight assists and four goals to his name. In addition to this, the following season (2011) Sahin helped Dortmund to lift the Bundesliga title, playing an influential role scoring seven goals and setting up eight goals for his team mates. He was voted player of the season in the Bundesliga for his efforts.
Arsene Wenger is said to be a keen admirer of Turkish player and he could inject some spark into Arsenal’s midfield. In my opinion, it is important to have strength in-depth and the ability to rotate players, to keep them fresh etc. Wenger could potentially rotate Nuri Sahin with Jack Wilshere in some fixtures, as both players play a similar style of attacking football, with a keen eye for a defense-splitting pass.
However, Arsenal will face stiff competition to acquire the players services with Malaga, whilst also, Manchester United are said to be keen.
With the player still at a young age and keen to play regular football, I believe Sahin could have a lot to offer Arsenal at the right price as long as his injury problems don’t come back to haunt him. If Arsenal cannot sign Gotze from Dortmund Sahin would be an ideal alternative. It is likely that Gotze will decide to stay on at Borussia Dortmund for at least one more season, especially with the club placed first currently in the Bundesliga table.
